Seems like an odd category at first. But the sole premise behind adventure is our natural instinct to explore, see new things and learn. I understood it’s not for absolutely everyone, or it might just be possible to replace the need for adventure with other priorities. But I still believe it’s a pleasure for all of us to see a place we’ve never seen before.
Or something we never did before. Can be as simple as visiting a nearby town, can be going to New Zealand with the intention of surviving in the wild (if you ever read this Lukas, let me know you’re alive dude).
Leaving your comfort zone, even just a little bit, can give you the pleasure you can’t find on television. You just have to probably be experiencing something new with your own eyes rather than your smartphone camera, being in the moment appreciating life a tiny bit more.
I figured I don’t need to travel to the end of the world to get such joyful moments of adventure, they can be just around the corner. For me some happened fairly close this year:
- Belgrade, a great city I had no clue about until Oggy showed me around (and accidentally crashing Johnny Depps private bar night)
- Trying to get drunk co-workers out of a strip club in Prague (not truly pleasant adventure though)
- White-water rafting with old friends in Austria
- Taking my dog and living in a small Italian city for a while
I know these are still places you can’t reach by foot, but for sure there’s something right in front of your doorstep. Trying a new sport or just driving a bike into the forest can do the trick. I’m not sure, but it’s worth a try.
